Anybody got a set of chains? Mike and Sheila could use them.

I think they are lost. When Sheila called this morning, she couldn’t explain where they were. She had to put Mike on the phone. He said they’ve only seen one vehicle in the last 24 hours. No houses. Road is dirt and it’s muddy, the wagon is sliding all over the place.

They are North of Reed Point on a county road. They are headed for Shawmut. Mike said something about getting some grub air lifted in to their location.

They camped last night at the Junction of Jones Hill Rd and Edgar Rd. Don’t try to look it up, it doesn’t exist. haha They made 28 miles yesterday.

Mike asked me if I saw their yellow tarp fly by Ranchester last night. I guess the wind is really blowing up there.

I think they are lost. Right now, I’m not sure what state they are in. haha

Sheila called…. She sent some pictures via her new phone. She said that she sent them to my email so I could post them. So I fired up the puter and low and behold, no pictures. So I called her back. Keep in mind that she’s in and out of cell service. While I’m talking to her, my phone beeps. Says I got a message. It’s a pictures. I don’t have texting on my phone so there’s a bill for 20 cents. Then, it beeps again. Another picture. Guess I’d better get texting turned on before she bankrupts me. haha Well worth it.

They are running in snow. It was a real goofy conversation. One of us was drunk, or needs to be in order to sort out the phone call.

It went like this:

Me: Hello?
Sheila: Hey, it’s me, we ain’t going to Reed Point, we turned.
Me: Huh? Where are you going?
Sheila: Well, the road was closed so we’re going North and it’s snowing.
Me: So what road are you on?
Sheila: This one cause we couldn’t take the other one.
Me: O K,…… What road are you on right now so I can put it on the website?
Sheila: We’re on this road. I sent pictures, did you get them?
Me: Sheila, I need to know where you are. What road are you on?
Sheila: We took this road because the other one was closed.
Me: Sheila, where are you going to pee tonight? (Thought I’d trick her into telling me where they were)
Sheila: I’m going to pee in the bucket.
Me: So where is the bucket?
Sheila: You helped us mount it, it’s on the side of the wagon.

Does anyone, besides me, think that Sheila was blonde in a former life?

They are on Highway 12. I have no clue, but I think they are in Montana. Or Indiana. Or Texas. Not sure. hahahaha

Give me a bit, I’ll manipulate this phone to see if I can get some pictures out of it.

There is something about technology and Sheila and Jim that just shouldn’t be. But we’ll get there.

I typed in the wrong date at the beginning and it won’t let me change it.     Today is the 29th.    Not the 28th.

Talked to Sheila. Give them a day of rest and now they are way too feisty. haha

Not much to report but they’re headed for Reed Point today.

They have been troubled with brake problems. The brakes work fine, just noisy. hahahaha

For you folks that didn’t call them, you missed your chance to bug them. However, they should have good cell service today. So give Sheila a call and give her your support. I’ve called her twice today. haha

4-27-10 (part 2)

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Got a call this afternoon. Mike and Sheila made outstanding time today, even with the stop in Joliet. They are currently in Columbus, camped by the river.

Sheila said they made sure they got some steaks to throw on the grill tonight as beans and weenies just wasn’t going to cut it.

They have good cell signal and are going to take tomorrow to get a little rest for the team.

Got the daily phone call.

Last night Mike and Sheila camped at Clarks Fork on the Yellowstone River, just outside of Edgar. They walked into Edgar and had a well deserved hamburger, cooked by somebody else.

They are expecting rain today as they see it off to the West and it’s moving toward them. Also, it’s windy, but warm. Sheila estimates that it’s 55+ where they are.

Headed West out of Edgar toward Joliet. They have to stop and see a person in Joliet and also load up on some grub. They won’t camp there, but depending on how long the visit is and the grocery stop, they plan on making a few more miles out of Joliet before they camp.

All is well, spirits are high, Sheila always calls me up laughing about something.

As of the phone call, they have traveled 140 miles.

4-26-10

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Sheila called this morning.

They made good time yesterday, despite rain and snow. Of course, the wagon doesn’t have windshield wipers so Mike missed the turn for Pryor. (That’s his story and he’s sticking to it).

They ended up going down a road a mile or so and a guy stopped them and explained they had missed the turn. He also offered his place to stay for the night. So Mike and Sheila stayed at Ed & Leslie Jordan’s ranch. Ed, just happens to be the President of the Montana Draft Horse Association. So they had a good evening visiting.

They got back on the road this morning (in the proper direction) and were headed through Pryor. Not sure where they’re going to camp tonight.

They did tell me that they’re going to change their route. Originally they were going to Edgar and then North through Laurel and up to Molt. However, no they are going through Big Timber and Columbus.

I will try and put together a map of sorts and keep it updated as best I can.

No pictures. Sheila got a new phone and says she’ll start sending pictures.

2-25-10 update

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

Sheila contacted me this afternoon:

Yesterday, they encountered snow and rain, but still made 25 miles. Really good day.

Mike was going to rest the horses for the next couple days but this morning he changed his mind when they got up and found the horses gone. Took Mike over an hour to walk them down (hobbled too). When he got back he said that seeings how the horses have so much energy, they don’t need to stop for two days.

Yesterday while traveling, a woman stopped and she was from the Crow Education system and she talked with Mike and Sheila for a while. Then she gave them T-Shirts.

This pictures is from last night.

4-24 update

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Sheila called me at about 9 this morning. Sorry, no pictures yet.

Yesterday’s total milage was about 17 miles. They camped along side of the Big Horn River. She said it was a beautiful spot. There were lots of folks out on boats for a while. Then it rained the rest of the day.

This morning they were off and running and when they called, they already had 3 miles behind them.

They hope to make a 20+ mile day and then do the same tomorrow. If so, they will be in Pryor Montana by tomorrow night.
