2012 Update

January 7th, 2012

Well, the holidays have come and gone. It’s now 2012 and with it starts a new project.

One chassis was found, but although it’s in good shape, it has no brakes. We’re still looking for a standard chassis with brakes.

A small trailer was purchased to be used as a kitchen and storage. As soon as I take some pictures, I’ll post them.

Hope the end of the Holidays found everybody still safe and in good health. It’s all good here.

Haven’t had enough snow to even take the tarp off the sled. Hopefully we’ll start getting some snow, but the bitter cold can stay up North.

8-10-2011

August 10th, 2011

A month ago, Jane split a hoof and has been on the mend. Saturday evening, about 9 or so, the team was harnessed and we went for a ride. It was dark out, glad the team knew the way and could see where they were going. lol Trip was a couple hours on pavement, and on gravel and Jane seemed to handle it nicely. Was good to get them out for a run.

New addition to the website.

June 29th, 2011

If you’ve noticed I added a Calendar of Events for Sheridan County on our Home page. Thanks to Penny L. Becker, Executive Director, Sheridan Travel and Tourism, we will have an ongoing calendar to see what’s coming up.

6-4-2011 It’s June already.

June 4th, 2011

Here it is June and we are not even close to being ready for a trip. We’ve aquired a second trailer frame and have to start building. We have the new tongue for it and some braces but still have a lot of wood and steel to purchase.

I’ll be posting pictures as we build.

Hope everybody is having a terrific summer. Lots of flooding around here. Weather has been up and down, even had frost this morning.

Mountain Lion

January 23rd, 2011

A couple weeks ago, the team started acting funny. They’d blow and snort and stomp their feet. If I was out there I’d look and couldn’t see anything. Mike and Sheila kept looking and nothing.

Finally, one day I was out calming the team down and while I was petting one, the other started to blow and snort. So I looked down river and kept watching, sure enough, a mountain lion come out of the woods. There are two old car body’s there and the cat walked by the first one. I got a good judge of size as the mountain lion come to within 5 or 6 inches of being the same height as the fender of the old car. Good sized cat. But it walked by the first car and jumped up on the roof of the second car and laid down. It just laid there, twitching it’s tail.

So, after a few minutes, I called Sheila on her cell. She grabbed her binoculars and come out. We watched that cat for 20 minutes. Finally it jumped down and wandered back into the woods.

Checking tracks, the cat has not come any closer then those car bodies. But the horses can see them so they get real nervous. The cars are about 250 yards away.

So we’ve kept a vigilent watch to make sure the cat keeps it’s distance. Normally, a cat will range hundreds of miles. Seldom will they hang out, unless they have denned up with a little of kittens. This cat has been in the area now for about 2 months. Several people have seen it.

Merry Christmas everyone! We hope that Santa delivers everything on your list. No snow here so hopes of a white Christmas means looking at the mountains just a couple miles away.

Winter expectations

November 15th, 2010

Well, we’ve taken the team out a couple times for local runs and as always, they are ready to go.

Haven’t had much response on suggestions. We’re looking forward to a trip next spring/summer but still not sure which direction to go.

Still in need of a wagon Chassis. If anybody know where there is one for sale (with brakes) let us know.

We have several projects to work on through this winter. We’ll be posting progress here on the site as we get ready for the next trip.

We look forward to more suggestions from you folks. Also, anybody want to go along? Either bring your wagon and join us, or bring a horse and ride as an outrider, for the whole trip, or join in progress for a few days. Let us know, we’ll figure out how and when.

It’s a new day, a new trip.

October 2nd, 2010

We need suggestions. Want to make a 30 day trip or less. Give us your suggestions. Where, when, what to see.  7194

The Alaskan trip.

September 8th, 2010

Mike and Sheila ended their wagon trip about 400 miles short of Skagway. At least, the team and wagon stopped, but not Mike and Sheila. The Alaskan Highway was too dangerous and too narrow to jeopardize life and property. After a couple of near misses they decided to leave the team and wagon and continue on by vehicle. They visited Skagway, Homer, and many other towns.

Then they brought the team home to Ranchester Wyoming. After a week, they hooked onto the flatbed trailer and went back up and got the wagon and the chassis pieces.

Last week, Mike and Sheila roasted a pig. After days of cutting wood and digging a pit, the fire was started on Saturday, 4 Sept at 9am. By 9 pm, there was 3 ft of red coals so the pig was set in the pit and covered up. At 1pm on Sunday, the pig was brought out and enjoyed by many friends, family, and supporters/followers of the trip. I don’t know about everybody else, but I, for one, ate toooo much.

From Mike and Sheila:

The trip was the most wonderful thing we could have experienced. We can’t tell you the countless friends we made along the way. Every where we stopped the people were very friendly and bent over backwards to make our journey pleasant. We ate many home cooked meals along the way as we were invited to stay in many homes or at least camp on private property.

It was a wonderful trip and we want to thank all the nice people that made it happen. We’ve already started planning a trip for next year. First order of business is to build a wagon!
